Aluminum Oxide

Aluminum Oxide

Aluminum oxide is an abrasive grain fused in an electric arc furnace that produces an extremely tough, long-lasting blasting grain. It may be repeatedly re-circulated and is chemically stable, not affected by alkalis, acids, or harmful atmospheres. Applications include cleaning, de-burring, etching, finishing, and de-scaling.

*Available in 50 lb bags

Copper Slag (Kleen Blast)

Kleen Blast is a hard, durable copper slag abrasive with low iron content, giving it no magnetic properties. Kleen Blast’s hardness and density allow it to remove paint and rust without an excessive breakdown on impact. This results in increased production speed and lower media consumption.

*Available in 22.7 kg bags, bulk bags, and bulk loads

Corn Cob

Corn cob is an organic, biodegradable blasting media made from the hard woody ring of a corn cob. This non-toxic media is used to de-burr, burnish, de-flash, and polish a wide variety of products such as brass, brick, stone, and wood.

*Available in 50 lb bags

Flour

Ground silica flour is produced from the highest quality, fine grade of crystalline silica sand available in Western Canada. Flour is used in the following applications:

• Industrial abrasive cleaner and inert filler •
• Filler in paints, powder coats, and plastics •
• Cementing in oil well drilling •
• Rock polishing •

*Available in 31 kg bags

Garnet

Garnet abrasives are composed of natural almandine garnet grains that are known for their natural hardness, durability, and abrasive characteristics. Garnet may be recycled and is ideal for blast rooms. Other applications include water jet cutting, water filtration, and abrasive blasting of steel, bridges, ships, and tanks and mill scale removal on new steel.

Glass Bead

Glass beads are formulated from chemically inert soda lime glass. Glass bead blasting is a contaminant-free, environmentally friendly choice to produce a clean surface. The impact of the beads removes foreign substances from the base surface without causing dimensional change, over-stressing, pitting, or embedding.

Glass bead blasting can be used on a wide range of materials including aluminum, glass, metal, plastic, and rubber. The smaller the glass spheres, the smoother the surface; larger spheres produce a more textured finish.

Glass beads are a particularly good media choice for peening as they do not contaminate metal surfaces.

Glass beads are often used with the following:

• Cleaning (removal of carbon) •
• De-burring •
• De-scaling •
• Finishing (smooth and matte) •
• Peening •
• Polishing •

*Available in 50 lb bags

Glass Grit

Glass grit is a crushed glass grit made from 100% post-consumer recycled glass. Its angular shape cuts through rust, scale, paint, and oil, and yet it is lightweight enough to create a low profile on the surface. It is often used in the following applications:

• Automotive •
• Construction equipment •
• Fibreglass and plastics •
• Stainless steel •
• Wood •

*Available in 50 lb bags or bulk bags

Granusil

Crystalline silica is a basic component of soil, sand, granite, and many other minerals. Quartz is the most common form of crystalline silica.

Washed, dried, and screened under quality assurance controls, granusil is superior in both hardness and uniformity with consistent particle size distribution.

*Available in 50 lb bags and bulk bags available on request

Sand

Sil Industrial Minerals’ sands are a sub-angular grain, crystalline silica sand with a hardness and uniformity superior to common or local river sands. All Sil Industrial Minerals sands are mined, washed, sized, dried, and screened. Applications include abrasive cleaning, filtration, hydraulic fracturing, and the surface preparation for coatings of bridges, concrete, construction, and oilfield equipment.

*Available in 22.7 kg bags, bulk bags, and bulk loads

Sodium Bicarbonate

Sodium bicarbonate is a non-toxic, non-hazardous, non-flammable, water-soluble media. This abrasive removes coatings without causing heat build-up, sparks, or abrasion to the surface being blasted. It is used in both industrial and commercial cleaning and coating removal applications. This soft abrasive may be used on wood, brick, marble, and other surfaces. Sodium bicarbonate is often used for:

• Cleaning (stains, oil, and grease) •
• Fire restoration work (smoke and soot) •
• Graffiti removal (paint) •

*Available in 50 lb bags

Steel Grit

Steel grit is made by crushing the fully hardened steel shot, screening the resulting media, and tempering it to a desired hardness. The sharp angular form of grit makes it ideal for etching a textured surface on metal for adhesion of paints and coatings.

*Available in 50 lb bags and drums available on request

Walnut Shell

Walnut shell abrasive is the hard fibrous product made from crushed walnut shells. Walnut shell is durable, reusable, non-toxic, biodegradable, and environmentally safe. It is widely used to clean and polish soft metals, glass, fibreglass, plastic, rubber, wood and stone. Walnut shell cleans and removes matter from surfaces without damaging the underlying material. This abrasive is recommended for the following:

• Cleaning (dirt, grease, carbon) •
• De-burring •
• De-scaling •
• Polishing •
• Stripping •

*Available in 50 lb bags
